Proclaimed the “Barbecue Capital of Texas” by the Texas Legislature in 1999, the small town of Lockhart offers easy access to the amenities of Downtown Austin while still providing plenty of conveniences, restaurants, and shopping opportunities of its own.
Described as being “curiously eloquent” by architectural historian and critic Colin Rowe, Lockhart has hosted numerous film sets. Among these are Waiting for Guffman, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, Transformers: Age of Extinction, and Where the Heart Is.Lockhart is also home to ample green space and parks, including Lockhart State Park. The park offers a swimming pool, a historic nine-hole golf course, numerous trails, and a creek that provides year-round fishing opportunities.
