Brentwood Homes for Sale
In the late 1940's, the City of Austin annexed a large area just north of the city limits. What was once cotton fields and farm homes became one of Austin 's most sought after locales within a few years of opening the neighborhood park and Brentwood Elementary in 1951.
With the city's expanding population and the short commute to the University, the neighborhood has become a hip community of students, professors, engineers, high-tech employees, and politicians.
Most of the charming Brentwood homes are wood-floored, single-family houses in this quiet neighborhood, but there are some apartments as well. The Brentwood real estate market is always growing and prices are strong. Divided by a tree-lined creek running up Arroyo Seco, Brentwood properties are situated east of Lamar, west of Burnet, north of 45th, and south of Justin Lane. Lamar allows for a quick commute to the University of Texas, and Mo-Pac provides a speedy trip North or South.
If you're feeling adventurous, you might take the day off for a trip to Lakeway - just go west down FM 2222 for a truly gorgeous drive on Austin 's version of Highway 1. Or you might just take a walk or bike ride up Arroyo Seco to the Brentwood Park and Pool. Last year, Entertainment Weekly named the Alamo Drafthouse the number one movie theatre in the nation, and there's one conveniently located on Anderson Lane, so be sure to stop in for a beer and a film sometime.
The H-E-B on Burnet is perfect for those big trips to the grocer. On your way home you could take a quick detour to Top Notch, the burger place featured in local auteur Richard Linklater's classic film, Dazed and Confused (you know you want to). Of course, neighborhood favorite Threadgill's always serves up mind-blowing Texas soul food, and Janis Joplin got her start at the same legendary Wednesday night singing sessions which continue today. The Violet Crown Festival (May 5 th , 2007) is an annual neighborhood celebration of music, art, food, and fun; head over to the family tent to meet your new neighbors and get a lot more information on Brentwood and its history.
Above all, Brentwood is primarily a family neighborhood, and that's reflected in the excellent area schools. McCallum High School is Austin 's Fine Arts Academy and has a strong AP program, and Brentwood Elementary was awarded a Gold Performance Acknowledgment in writing and science on last year's school report card. Additionally, there are a number of local private schools, including Petite Ecole Internationale, a Montessori school which offers a French immersion program.
But Brentwood really is a community for everyone. More than almost anywhere, it epitomizes Austin urban-suburban living with its grown-up slacker feel and green-friendly environment. Whether you're a student, a working professional, or a family, you're sure to find yourself a place in Brentwood.
